The FCC has mandated that all current licensees, operating on frequencies between 150 MHz to 512 MHz, migrate to narrowband technology of less than 12.5 KHz. (For more information click here)
House Bill H.R. 3430 if enacted would extend the narrowbanding deadline by two years. The bill was introduced by Representative Steve Rothman of New Jersey's 9th District two days ago. The full text of the bill can be viewed here H.R.3430.
There are currently no co-sponsors and its hard to imagine that the bill will pass given that the mandate was enacted nearly a decade ago. The FCC has opened the door for a waiver process that they say will implement a "high degree of scrutiny". Stay tuned as this story develops.
